Fraction lives on Mars

Here is the artwork of the brand new Composer release on Infine. John Casey, responsible of the art of the previous release of Composer, is still the author of this one. Well, it looks pretty obvious. His art is pretty recognizable among everything outside right now. 

No need to say that I’m proud of this record. It concludes, i guess,  series of releases  around ‘The edges of the world’, the full length record we released few months ago. This record gathers remix of Breton, Monokle, Arandel and Poborsk. Thanks to them for their wonderful reinterpretation of Check Chuck and Polar Bear.

Looser sound

I’ve done this soundtrack for  a competition..  I didn’t really think i wanted to win. I rather actually thought that it was a cool opportunity to work on decent material. Winter was long, and working with a virtual dancer was a relief.

Well, no more to add. I lost, and they picked the ugliest works (as expected).

I just dig this new music video for Composer. Thanks again to studio Fünf for their work! I  love it. Funny, cool, ironic, punk… well some of my favorite spicies! I’m about to regret my former office works!!

C’est le printemps.

Un moment que je l’attendais, peut être vous également. Le voile sombre se lève enfin. Le ciel de Paris semble se craqueler… bien malgré lui. Mais malheureusement, pour l’instant ce n’est qu’une illusion. Mars nous maintien dans l’imaginaire printanier, sans nous en donner la saveur. Peut importe, l’hiver est fini, et nous offre  la possibilité de cette illusion. Et, elle est bonne à prendre. Plutôt deux fois qu’une en fait. En parlant de ça, quoi de mieux pour célébrer la promesse d’une renaissance qu’un rassemblement au doux son de l’utopie.

Je suis utopiste, enfin j’essaye, la plupart du temps. Parfois c’est un peu compliqué. Mais un artiste se doit d’être utopiste. Il me semble même que c’est son devoir. Sinon à quoi bon? L’utopie est une lutte permanente et ses adversaires nombreux… Bref. Appâté par l’odeur d’une couleur oubliée, j’ai parcouru la bastille ce dimanche 18. Et que dire sinon le plaisir de se sentir porté par la célébration d’un printemps de promesses, abandonné à ses dernières illusions.

I’m moving again my studio. Well, i left the former one few days ago, and moving’ in the new one in two or three days. It will be only for few weeks, maybe more. It’s really hard to be an artist in sound production in Paris. I should post something on this subject later. There’s so much to say.

In the meantime, i came back home and that gave me the opportunity to work out an idea for a video on the track Aqualung, released on the last Composer album. I really like the work of Martha Graham, an American choreographer. She was an innovative artist in modern dance, and i always thought that i should try to put some electronic music on one of her ballets.

I used an old footage of 1981, and gee, it’s incredible how it matches a lot with music. I don’t pretend it’s the better music video ever. I basically did it only for myself…just because i had this idea for this track…matching it with a ballet…!

It’s likely that everyone will have to say something about it. I’m not a filmmaker and I assume there’s a bunch of technical mistakes. But what to say? finally, i do like watching it, and it’s enough for my happiness… for now !

I’m posting the link to the new Olga Iwogo short movie for which I composed the music and made the sound design few months ago. I’m pretty happy with what i made, especially because at first i took a really different direction which didn’t work at all. Then i changed and redone everything, within a day after talking with the director. Mistakes are blessings.

2011 s’est achevé. Une année bien riche. J’ai eu la chance de travailler sur de super projets. L’un deux, Dromos, nous occupe encore Mathieu (Maotik) et moi, et nous espérons en proposer une version améliorée en cette fin de nouveau semestre. En attendant, un rapide retour sur la résidence qui a permis de mettre ce projet sur de bons rails avec l’enregistrement sonore d’une rencontre avec des enfants au terme d’une session que nous avions fait spécialement pour eux. Les enfants c’est toujours honnête, et l’écoute de cet enregistrement me réchauffe le cœur en ce hiver 2012. A très vite cette fois avec d’autres nouvelles.
